Introduction to Craps
An Example of Craps' table design

For starters, Craps is a dice game in which players play to wager on dice's roll. Dice’s roll varies from games, in which dice can roll once, roll 2 dice at the same time or a dice roll in series.

On CasinosBank craps or casino craps is a game played by multiple or a single player betting chips on the outcome of the dice. The players and casino representatives stand or sit around a huge oval craps table with a layout – a felt table cloth that has various designs for the purpose of giving betting possibilities that will vary in position, presence and payout in many casinos. The tables are usually designed for 8 players to stand to. The table is administered by four casino representatives; a Boxman, he supervise and manages the dealers and chips. Dealers, they collect and pay chips to the players who lost or win around the table; and the Stickman, he takes or pays bets on the center of the table, he also announces the results of every roll, you can distinguish him by his long wooden stick to collect or give bets and put player’s bets on the table.

Meanwhile on the Streets, they play this game called “street craps”, in contrary to casinos, street craps does not have a table with a design. Street craps often play with no back-stop or a thing or a wall that acts as a barrier for the dice are to hit. On casinos they are using chips as wagers, while on street craps they are using only cash to play, usually being just thrown to the ground as they play. Wins and payouts are regulated also by the players.

Rules of Playing Craps

Players take turns counter clockwise to roll the dice after each round and the one who is throwing the dice is called the “shooter”. Before the shooter throws the dice, players may bet on various options on the table by placing chips or asking the “stickman” to place bets on the table on players’ behalf. Before every round, the stickman will present five dice to the shooter and the shooter must choose two, the other dice will be kept by the stickman. Then the shooter must make a Pass line bet – it can be either “Pass” or “Don’t Pass” line. And then other players at the table can also now make bets. After the others make their bets, the shooter is now ready to begin the round by rolling the dice off the back-stop of the table. The shooter’s first roll is called “come-out roll”; if the roll is a 7 or 11, the Pass bets won the round and the Don’t bets Pass lose, and the round ends. But if the roll is 2, 3 or 12, the Pass line loses and the Don’t Pass line also loses. It also ends the round as well. And if the roll is 4, 5, 6 ,8, or 10, the specific number that the player bet on becomes the player’s point. A puck will be placed on top of the player’s number on the table, and the shooter will continue to roll the dice until the dice roll the point number 7. If the point is rolled, then pass line bets win the round. If a 7 is rolled then don’t pass bets win.

Kinds of bets (Popular bets on Craps)

Pass Line bets – easiest bets to make. You are betting on either a come-out roll will be 7 or 11. And even if the come out roll is 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, you’ll just want that number to be rolled again before the shooter rolls a 7.
You’ll just lose the round if the shooter rolls a come-out roll of 2, 3, or 12.
If a point is rolled and a 7 is rolled before that point value, your bet also loses.

Don’t Pass line you’re basically betting against the shooter. You’ll win the round if the shooter rolls a “crap” (2, 3 or 12) on the come-out roll. If a point is rolled, you’ll win the round if the shooter rolls a 7 before hitting their point number value.

Come bets – after getting the point phase of the game, this opens the possibility of winning on other numbers because you can bet and cover 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10 as long as you don’t roll 7. You can win by hitting your point or come bet’s number until you hit a 7 or roll a 10 which makes the “come out bets” begin again.

These are the basic crap rules and bets, there are many more. If you are curious on playing craps, you might just as well try it!

Good luck at playing at the tables mate!
